Coding changes the software settings already built into your car's modules, so you can switch on features BMW left disabled or change how existing ones behave. Common examples: X3M / X4M RWD unlock, comfort access, auto-dimming high beams, full-screen Apple CarPlay, windows up and down from the key fob, and reading or clearing fault codes. It's all done through the factory modules, so no extra hardware is needed.

Yes. Mobile diagnostics and coding are available across the Portland area at no additional fee. Bigger jobs like performance installs, or anything that needs a lift, are handled in the shop.

Yes. Modern BMWs track the battery through an intelligent battery sensor and adjust charging based on how old and worn that battery is believed to be. Drop in a new battery without registering it and the car keeps charging to the old battery's profile, which typically overcharges the new one and can cut its life significantly. Registration tells the car it has a fresh battery and resets that charging strategy. If you also changed battery type, for example from lead-acid to AGM, that has to be coded as well or the charging profile still won't match what's actually installed. It's a quick job on a diagnostic tool, we do it in-shop or mobile across the Portland metro, and it's worth doing at the same time as the battery rather than after you've already cooked one.
